Office game guide

Decrypto

Make your clues clear—but only to your team.

Decrypto rewards the kind of shared language teams build over time. Each clue must guide colleagues toward three numbered keywords while giving the opposing team as little reusable information as possible.

How to play

Give the table a clear rhythm.

Use this as a quick first-game guide, then keep the official rules close for edge cases and exact details.

  1. Create two code teams

Split into two teams and give each one a screen, four keyword cards and a note sheet. Only that team may read the words inside its screen.

  2. Draw a secret code

The round’s Encryptor draws a code card showing an ordered sequence of three numbers linked to three of the team’s four keywords.

  3. Write three clues

The Encryptor writes one clue for each keyword in code order, then reads the clues aloud without revealing the numbers.

  4. Decode—and try to intercept

The opposing team records its attempted interception, then the Encryptor’s own team records its answer. Reveal the code and mark both results.

  5. Watch the two danger tracks

A team wins with two successful interceptions. It loses after two miscommunication tokens, so clues must remain useful without becoming predictable.

Before the first turn

Set up for a smooth start.

  • Split colleagues into two teams and place a screen in front of each group.
  • Insert four keyword cards so only the owning team can read them.
  • Give both teams a note sheet and explain that old clues remain public evidence.
  • Choose a new Encryptor every round so clue styles keep changing.

Make it a season

Turn shared language into a team league.

Record the winning team, interceptions and miscommunications. Rotate Encryptors and reshuffle the teams next session so the season rewards clear communication across the office.
