King of Tokyo

Roll big. Take the city. Know when to leave.

King of Tokyo puts one monster in the city and everyone else around it. Dice create points, healing, energy and attacks; the central decision is whether Tokyo’s rewards are worth becoming the table’s biggest target.

How to play

Give the table a clear rhythm.

Use this as a quick first-game guide, then keep the official rules close for edge cases and exact details.

  1. Roll the dice

Roll all six dice. You may keep or reroll any dice twice, for a maximum of three rolls, then resolve the final result.

  2. Resolve every symbol

Sets of three matching numbers score points; hearts heal outside Tokyo; energy buys cards; claws damage monsters in the opposing location.

  3. Enter Tokyo when it is empty

If your attack empties Tokyo, move in. Entering Tokyo scores one point, and beginning your turn there scores two more.

  4. Yield after an attack

A monster in Tokyo cannot heal with dice. After taking damage, it may leave Tokyo, and the attacking monster must replace it.

  5. Reach a winning condition

Win immediately by reaching 20 victory points, or by becoming the only monster still alive.

Before the first turn

Set up for a smooth start.

  • Give every player a monster board and set health to ten and points to zero.
  • Place Tokyo, the dice and energy cubes within everyone’s reach.
  • Shuffle the power cards and reveal three beside the deck.
  • Use only Tokyo City with four or fewer players; add Tokyo Bay for five or six.

Make it a season

Make every rampage count beyond Tokyo.

Record the winner, final points and surviving health. A season can reward table wins first, then use total victory points as the measure of consistent monster management.
