Just One

Write the clue nobody else will choose.

Just One creates the rare kind of pressure that feels generous. Everyone wants the guesser to succeed, but the most obvious clues may disappear before they can help.

How to play

Give the table a clear rhythm.

Use this as a quick first-game guide, then keep the official rules close for edge cases and exact details.

  1. Choose the guesser

The active player takes a card without reading its words, places it facing the group and chooses a number from one to five.

  2. Write one clue

Everyone else secretly writes a single-word clue for the selected mystery word. No discussion is allowed.

  3. Cancel duplicates

The guesser closes their eyes while clue-givers compare boards. Identical or invalid clues are removed before the reveal.

  4. Make one guess

Show the surviving clues. The active player may give one answer or pass if the connection is too uncertain.

  5. Score the round

A correct answer earns the card. A wrong answer removes that card and the top card; a pass removes only the current card.

Before the first turn

Set up for a smooth start.

  • Shuffle 13 cards into the game deck.
  • Give every player an erasable stand and pen.
  • Choose the first active player.
  • Agree that clues must be a single word before the first round.

Make it a season

Chase a shared personal best.

Save the team’s score after all 13 cards, then change the group or difficulty next time. The season becomes a cooperative record everyone can improve.
